Our stunning islands make for a fantastic year-round destination, boasting average high temperatures in the 80s and around 350 days of sunshine each year. We share what to expect each season and month of the year to help you choose the best time of year to visit Turks and Caicos!
Each season brings variations in weather and water temperatures, as well as offers on accommodations and seasonal things to do. From pleasant and dry winters to warm summers with calm waters. Whether you’re planning a spring break escape, summer getaway or festive family gathering, we’ll take you through month by month so you can plan your trip with ease. Let’s get started!
High Season from Late November to April
From November to April, travellers can enjoy numerous benefits, including the Turks and Caicos weather we’re famous for during our dry season, to a vibrant atmosphere and the chance to see humpback whales. This period is recognized as the peak season in the Turks and Caicos Islands, commencing from late November to early December and lasting through April.
Weather
The weather in Turks and Caicos from late November to April presents the islands’ most favourable conditions, characterized by a cool and dry season. However, don’t be misled by the word “cooler”; daytime temperatures remain comfortably around 80°F (27°C) or higher, while evenings dip into the mid to low 70s°F. This warmth provides a delightful contrast to the hot summer months, complemented by refreshing evening breezes. With temperatures ranging from the mid-70s°F (mid-20s°C) to the mid-80s°F (high 20s°C), it’s the perfect time to indulge in water activities and soak up the sun.
The high season also coincides with the dry season, meaning you can expect minimal rainfall and abundant clear blue skies. This dry and sunny weather is ideal for basking on our pristine beaches, exploring our coastlines, or embarking on water activities for a day of snorkelling, diving or island hopping.
Pricing on Accommodations in High Season
As the high season kicks into full swing, nightly rates for accommodations at hotels and private villas are typically near their highest – peaking at festive season over Christmas and the New Year. This is the most desirable time of the year for visitors to grace our shores, and pricing reflects that. There are still great deals to be found and options for every budget. Take advantage of the magnificent weather and buzzing atmosphere this time of the year.
Things to Do: Whale Watching
Starting in January and extending through early April, the Turks and Caicos Islands become a popular destination for whale watching enthusiasts. As humpback whales pass by our islands on their annual migration to warmer waters to mate and give birth, visitors have a unique opportunity to see these gentle giants up close and personal. And if you’re lucky, you may even get to swim and snorkel alongside them. Witnessing the majestic humpback whales as they migrate through the area (especially Grand Turk and Salt Cay) is a humbling and unforgettable experience.
Atmosphere
In addition to the favourable weather and awe-inspiring wildlife encounters, the high season also provides a vibrant and bustling atmosphere. With an influx of visitors from all over the world, the islands come alive with a palpable energy. Those escaping cold winter months or embarking on holiday travel create a buzz! With increased tourism, this time of year usually comes with many cultural events and lively markets, where you can get a true taste of the Turks and Caicos.
Shoulder Season from May to July
This ‘in-between’ season presents a balance between pleasant temperatures and more affordable options on accommodations, making it a great time to travel. The crowds start to dissipate, temperatures begin to rise, and you will see more deals on places to stay this time of year.
Weather
As the summer season unfolds in Turks and Caicos from May to August, you can expect warmer temperatures in the mid to high 80s°F (high 20s°C), calm seas and a touch of tropical rainfall. The rising temperatures create warm days perfect for water sports and beach activities or exploring the vibrant marine life below the surface. The start of summer normally coincides with calmer waters, making this a beautiful time of year for boating and swimming.
While this is considered our rainy season and occasional rain showers may pass through the islands during this period, they are usually short-lived, giving way to sunny skies once again. A rainy day is a rare occasion. June marks the start of hurricane season, although historically June through July and much of August are quiet months for storms. Despite the chance of some passing showers, many visitors find that May to August offers a quieter and more tranquil experience compared to peak tourist months.
Pricing on Accommodations in Shoulder Season
As the high season winds down and we move into the shoulder season over the summer months, many hotels and villas offer attractive discounts and special promotions to entice visitors. If you’re looking for the best rates at on accommodations, and usually flights too, this is the best time to visit Turks and Caicos.
The Atmosphere
When it comes to atmosphere, this is the best time of the year to go to Turks and Caicos for the best of both worlds. The island is still energetic with many visitors flocking to our shores, but it becomes much easier to make last minute reservations for excursions and restaurants. There’s just enough bustle to keep you entertained but without the rush of the high season. We still recommend booking in advance for your ‘must-do’ activities and restaurants to avoid disappointment.
Low Season from August to Early November
The low season in the Turks and Caicos Islands, from August to October, comes with the unique opportunity to have some of the best beaches in the world all to yourself, but it’s essential to be aware of tropical storms. This time of year marks the height of hurricane season but storms are not guaranteed. Purchasing travel insurance can provide peace of mind if you need to make any last minute changes.
Weather
The low season brings higher temperatures, increased humidity, and chances of rain due to the Atlantic hurricane season. Nevertheless, it’s important to understand that tropical storms may not always occur. By monitoring weather forecasts and purchasing travel insurance, visitors can mitigate potential risks and still have a wonderful stay during this quieter period.
Pricing on Accommodations in Low Season
Due to lower demand, you can find excellent deals on hotel and villa stays during the low season. Take advantage of discounted rates and special offers available during this time. The islands are less crowded compared to peak season months like December and January, giving you a chance to enjoy a more laid-back experience.
The Atmosphere
During this time, which the locals affectionately call ‘Silly Season’ the islands still hold their charm with fewer crowds and great deals on travel and accommodations. If you seek a more peaceful and secluded vacation and lower costs, the low season is the perfect time to visit. With fewer tourists, it’s not unusual to have a stretch of beach all to yourself!
A Great Time to Visit, Anytime of Year
Choosing the best time to visit Turks and Caicos simply depends on your priorities and preferences. The high season offers excellent weather, whale-watching opportunities, and a vibrant atmosphere—albeit at higher prices. The shoulder season provides a balance between pleasant weather and attractive deals on accommodations. If you’re in search of a quiet holiday and can monitor weather forecasts, the low season offers fewer crowds and the chance to enjoy the islands at a more affordable cost.
