The best time to visit Turks and Caicos is any time of year. That’s not marketing. It’s the short version of the truth. The islands average 350 sunny days a year, daytime temperatures rarely leave the low 80s, and the barrier reef keeps the water clear and calm year-round.
What changes month to month is the pricing, the crowd, the wind, and whether the humpbacks are passing through. Below is what to expect, when, and what we recommend for each kind of trip.

Best weather overall — December through April. Dry, warm, low humidity, no chance of storms.
Best value — May, June, and early November. Same warm weather, half the room rates.
Best for whales — mid-January through early April. Peak sightings in February and March.
Best for quiet — September and October. The islands nearly empty.

Peak season begins in earnest. Cool nights, warm days, clear skies. Humpback whales start passing on their migration south. Book early. Christmas villas fill by summer, and January follows the same pattern.
February

The driest month of the year. Rainfall is minimal. Whale sightings are at their peak, especially off Grand Turk and Salt Cay. Room rates are at their annual high.
March

Spring break brings a busier feel across the islands. Whales continue passing. Peak afternoon temperatures often reach into the mid-80s°F. Reservations for dining and excursions need to be made in advance.
April

Easter aside, prices soften after the first week. The whale migration is winding down but early April can still deliver sightings. Weather stays reliably clear. One of our favourite months.
May

The waters go glassy. Rain is still light, temperatures warm without becoming humid, and the island quiets down. Best value against best weather. This is the month locals recommend to friends.
June
82°F / 28°C · quiet · start of hurricane season
Hurricane season begins officially on the first. But June is historically quiet and the risk is negligible. The water is warm, the villas are affordable, and the beaches are empty. A hidden gem month.
July
83°F / 28°C · warm · family travel
The hottest, most humid month, with brief passing showers most weeks. Peak summer for families travelling on school break. Water temperatures reach 84°F / 29°C. Book early for the school-holiday weeks.
August
83°F / 29°C · storm risk rising · low season
Hurricane risk starts to matter around mid-month. Storms are still rare, but travel insurance becomes worth it. Rates drop meaningfully. Locally called the start of “Silly Season.”
September
83°F / 28°C · peak storm season · empty
Statistically the highest hurricane risk. Storms are still not a given, but the possibility is real enough that some businesses reduce hours. The upside. The beaches are all but yours. Recommended for flexible travellers with insurance.
October

Storm risk begins to taper in the second half of the month. Late October is often lovely and quiet, and rates are still at their annual low. A good gamble for value-seekers.
November

The dry season returns. Storm risk is essentially gone by mid-month. Thanksgiving week is busy, but the weeks either side are ideal. Good weather, moderate rates, uncrowded beaches.
December
78°F / 26°C · high season · festive
The dry season is in full swing. A vibrant atmosphere returns with the influx of holiday visitors, cultural events, and festive markets. Christmas and New Year’s are the peak of the peak. Villas we manage are typically booked a year ahead. Early December, before the festive week, is quieter and often overlooked.

Whale watching
Late January to early April
Humpback whales pass through the Turks and Caicos Passage on their migration to the Silver Bank. Peak weeks are late February and early March. Grand Turk and Salt Cay offer the best viewing and swim-with tours.
Kiteboarding
November to July
Steady trade winds from the east make Long Bay Beach one of the world’s top kiteboarding spots. Best winds are December through May. Consistent 15–20 knots, shallow flat water, plenty of schools and rentals.
Snorkelling and diving
Year-round
Water clarity is excellent throughout the year, but summer months bring the calmest conditions and warmest water. Visibility routinely exceeds 100 feet. Winter can deliver stronger currents on the north-shore sites.
Fishing
Year-round • Seasonal targets

Family travel
December, March – April, July
The three windows that align with school holidays. December for the festive season, spring break for weather, and July for the warmest water. Book villas six to twelve months ahead for these weeks.
Quiet luxury
Eary December, May, Early November
The gaps between the crowds. Weather is reliably good, rates are moderate, and beaches and restaurants have room to breathe. Our favourite recommendation for repeat visitors.
A Note
On hurricanes, honestly.
Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Peak risk falls in August, September, and early October. In an average year, one or two storms will approach the Turks and Caicos closely enough to matter. Most years, they don’t.
If you’re planning travel during peak storm season, book with travel insurance and stay flexible on dates. The weather forecast becomes useful about seven days out, so most travellers with insurance and a flexible booking come through fine.
And when the weather does turn — which happens a handful of days a year, storm or no storm — the villas are the safest, most comfortable place to wait it out.
